Standing, staring
Standing, staring
by Joel Howard
It was two-thirty in the morning and I walked by my bathroom mirror
Deep inside something told me to look into the mirror
And tell myself, "You are loved"
And I scoffed almost out loud
Saying, "What's the purpose? What's the reason? What difference would it make?!"
I ignored that thought and went upstairs to check on my sleeping children
You are loved
You are loved
Tell yourself that you are loved
When the whole world's standing, staring at you
Saying, "Who do you think you are!"
Say, "You are loved
You are loved"
Tell yourself that you are loved
When the whole world's standing, staring at you
Say, "You are loved"
I returned to the mirror and got a look at my face
My grey hairs, my imperfections
My aging self
I listened to the voice inside and moved my lips to match the rhyme
"You are loved" I said two times
"Joel, you are loved"
You are loved
You are loved
Tell yourself that you are loved
When the whole world's standing, staring at you
Saying, "Who do you think you are!"
You are loved
You are loved
Tell yourself that you are loved
When the whole world's standing staring at you
Say, "You are loved"
