In the sound of silence
In the sound of silence
A poem by Joel Howard
As I breathe
Breathe deep
Your heavy silence
surrounds me
I can't whisper
I can't speak
You're holding me
Holding me
As I think
Of your greatness
Heavens full
Seas you made
Hell beneath me
Full of sinners
Starry hosts
Earth that quakes
I must ponder
I must go
To the place
Here below
Where nobody
And nothing
Can come close
to me
I must hide here
In your love
In your overwhelming
flood
I must linger
I must wait
In your holiness
I must rest
There is a love
A deep embrace
There is a promise
That you made
In my mother's
womb ago
You were with me
There is a circle
In the heavens
Where your throne
Is never ending
I will go there
I will arrive
By your side
I must recall
Little miracles
You providing
and being great
Showing up
When I was younger
I must recall
In this silence
Sheer stillness
No fire or earthquake
No rain or hail
Can come between
Jehovah Jireh
Me and God
Steady my heart
In silence, silence
Steady my soul
Within me now
There is no place
I could be
Without you
Steady my heart
In wonder, wonder
Slow down my mind
To ponder you
There is no place
I could be
Without God
Devils and demons
Running, running
Capturing weak and
lowly people
There is no place
I could be
Without Mercy
Temptations come
want to try me, try me
Darkness before
And behind me
There is no place
I could be
Without God
Shame and terror
Abiding, abiding
This culture full of
Striving, striving
There is no place
I could be
without God!
Heaven's King
The only One
Heaven's King
The only One
Heaven's King
The only One
for this heart!
Shelter me!
The only One
Shelter me!
The only One
There is no place
I could be
without God
