I come to Thee
Friends and family - here's a poem fresh out of my journal for your uplifting. Preface: I am fighting to slow down amidst a pace of life that's busy. We can all relate to that. May you and I slow down to be alone with Him no matter where we find our path today. Feel free to share the poem. Love, Joel Howard
I come to Thee
By Joel Howard, December 2018
Go, go, go
Earn, earn, earn
Be more, do more, have more
These voices call to me
Ruin my peace, steal my happiness
And I am left broken
I am left bruised
Beaten by death’s decision
To mask itself as good
To tell me that she's trustworthy
To tell me she's enough
Devils now wound me
Temptations would come to me
Heart-broken now
A deer panting for streams
I come to Thee
I come to Thee
Master of my happiness
I rest in Thee
Maker of my joy
I will abide
In the shelter of your holiness
In the shadow of your care
Where no one else is there
I come to Thee
Life is tiring
Prayers are few
Gifts are contingent
Upon me giving back to ‘you’
Not as the world gives
I would receive
You ask nothing back
You gave it all
When I was still dead
Shame is frightening
Terrors abide
When fears run through my soul
and body like a lightning bolt
Wanting me to forget love’s hold
Trembling, I cry to heaven above
The busyness of earth has
come once again, Father
I fight to slow down
I violently thrash to let go
Of the demands this world has
placed upon my weary soul
And I come to Thee
Master of my happiness
I rest in Thee
Maker of my joy
I will abide
In the shelter of your holiness
In the shadow of your care
Where no one else is there
I come to Thee
All hell would attempt
To steal my countenance
Hell knows too well
My Father satisfies
The bible tells me
Satan lost his place in heaven
and an army of angels fell with him
The devil would attempt
To rip His life from me
Satan stops at nothing
To kill my community and family
I rest today
There is nothing in my way
I can choose today
To rest in Thee
I come to Thee
LORD of this entire wilderness
I rest in Thee
Because you've already been through this
I will abide
In the shelter of your holiness
In the shadow of your care
Where no one else is there
I come to Thee
